My Maker, Be with Me - New Hymn
With all of the changes in my professional life, I was reviewing texts about putting your faith where true comfort can be found. The old german hymn, Mein Schopfer, Steh mir Bei, known better by the English translation, My Maker, be with Me is one such text. Although this is often used at confirmations, it is a great general commitment text that can be used during Lent, throughout the church year, and in times of uncertainty.
I composed a new melody to open this text better to the modern ear. Although I love traditional hymnody, the new setting should work well in both traditional and contemporary settings. I've included chords for a praise band, but a simple piano would do just fine. Let me know what you think!
