Day and Night I Seek You - Psalm 1

Here is setting of Psalm 1. I had a few objectives in with this setting: 1) Capture the full meaning of the text, 2) Present it with more of a meditative color, and 3) Contrast our communion with God to the emptiness of the ungodly.

Here is the Biblical test:

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. 3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away. 5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.

6 For the Lord watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked leads to destruction.

Here is the song text:

Blessed is the one who renounces

Walking on the road of sinners;

Firmly rooted in your promise,

Living water

Yielding courage

When the sunshine fades it blossoms.

When all hope evades it prospers.

When all other counsel stumbles.

You assist me

And uplift me

Day and night I seek you.

I delight in you.

All to you I offer;

My heart,

My soul,

My mind.

Absent you they scoff; they deride me.

Leaves without a branch, they wither.

When the harsh winds blow they scatter

Yet you offer

Sanctuary.

All their wicked ways will perish

Faithless foes will fall in judgement.

Only you can know your children;

The righteous

Heirs of heaven.

Day and night I seek you.

I delight in you.

All to you I offer;

My heart,

My soul,

My mind.

I hope you like it. Let me know what you think.
